How to Set an Eyelet
Work on a firm, hard surface. I use a plank under my setting mat!
1. Place anywhere hole punch on the spot you want the eyelet. Hammer firmly 2-3 times to create hole.
2. Lay eyelet upside down; place hole over eyelet. IMPORTANT! Project is right-side down!
3. Place setter into eyelet, hammer firmly twice (or until you can feel eyelet split). Remove setter and hammer eyelet once or twice to completely flatten. Turn over.
Just a few ideas!
ATTACH STUFF – THE MOST(?) OBVIOUS!
Attach vellum, silk flowers, die-cut shapes, letter charms, hinges, bookplates, ribbon, clock hands, rub-on letters, envelope string closures, fabric, twistel, lace. Put an eyelet in each corner of a square/rectangle or pocket or simply one centered on each side or centered top and bottom. Attach loops, use for the center of a pinwheel or a propeller. Attach the handle on a basket, connectors on moveable parts, a sign to a post, hinges on glasses or sunglasses. Attach pieces of cardstock together and spell out titles.
HANG STUFF
Set an eyelet in each upper corner, thread a fiber or wire through and "hang" over a brad (think of a picture hanging on the wall). Set an eyelet in each end of a hammock and suspend.
DESIGN ITEMS, BITS & PIECES
Use eyelets as designer dragonflies, pet paw prints, caterpillars, musical notes, berries, grape clusters. Ants, butterfly bodies, end of antenna on a bug, frog eyes, spider body, rocks.
USE IN PLACE OF LETTERS AND PUNCTUATION
Dot i's and j’s, use as o’s, use as bullet points, use to separate words, use as hyphens. Place in the center of letters, on the tail of a letter, spell out words.
REINFORCE HOLES
Reinforce holes and thread fibers, ribbon, wire, beading string or lace things together. Reinforce holes on tags, bookmarks. Reinforce holes and dangle charms or tags. Reinforce holes, insert jump rings and make a shower curtain!
SURPRISES
Replace a flower center, use for spots on an animal, make funny eyes, place along the edge of a flower petal, for port holes on ships, rivets on macho-designs, rivets on jeans or jeans pockets. Lady bug spots, nails in a fence or on wood, polka-dots, earrings or hair ornaments for a paper doll, belly button jewel, snowman buttons, stone in a ring, decoration on a child’s ball, stepping stones in a garden, stars or snowflakes in the sky, even falling raindrops in blue, moonbeams in white or metallic, jewels on a belt, buttons on a shirt, decorations on an Easter egg or Christmas tree, lights on a police car or fire truck. Chocolate chips on a cookie, pepperoni on a pizza, M&Ms, sprinkles on ice cream or cupcakes, seeds of a watermelon, seeds on a bun. The center of tires or the wheels themselves.
ACCENTS
Place in a row, arrange in a diamond pattern, place one centered at the edge. Accent journaling blocks. Make a border, separate your title, use as filler. Create a line of eyelets near a focal point. Use on photo mat corners. |
